Getting back into it

Getting back into it

"Dear Busy Girls Guide. I'm back from 2 weeks in Italy and I'm so fed up. Can you help cheer me up because I don't want to be back at work!" Emma, Cheshire

Dear Emma,

Your problem of course is motivation - you may finish your last few days abroad thinking 'I'm going to make a real go of it when I get back' but then two hours into it & you feel like packing your bags & running off again.

We know what it's like Busy Girl - even when you've loads to do without motivation you just sit & suffer... we thought we'd bring you back to work with a smile & some help from our Business Coach...

Don't go straight back

It’s difficult to go from relaxing days by the pool straight into full-on meeting mode. Give yourself at least a day to get straight at home & so you can launch yourself in with effort the next day.

Make plans

No doubt you'll have 74 thousand emails & 4 billion voice messages - don't get overwhelmed. Spend at least 1/2hr planning what's the most important bit to start first & then take each job on at a time. Let people know that you're just back from a break & that you will respond to them shortly.

Get out!

What did you love most about your holidays? The fresh air? The walks or the swimming? Take in some scenery & get walking now you're back... try to get out for lunch, even if it's to get a change of environment for 1/2 an hour.

Think of me

We look after ourselves better when we're on holidays - we eat properly, read books & pamper ourselves. Take lunch away from your desk, have some healthy food (see Mai Bai Manchester for inspiration) & read a couple of pages of a non-work related book. You'll be surprised how much more motivated you are when you get back to your desk.

Get it booked

If you know that you're going away in a few weeks' time it can help keep you motivated - why not have a look at some travel brochures
& see what you fancy? Booking something or having something in mind will make you feel less like a hard-done-by ex-holidayer & motivated to acheive before you go.

Switch off

One reason why people don't feel like they've had a decent break is that they haven't actually taken a break! Think back to your holiday did you check your emails every few hours & find it hard to turn off your mobile phone? Don't feel obliged to work through your holiday - there is nothing that can't wait a couple of weeks. As long as you've planned your time before you leave & got your key projects covered there should be no need to take calls & work on emails.

Go away more

Why not have a few holidays instead of one big one? Going away with friends can also be a bit of a change? Think about 3-4 long weekends in the sun with friends or your man, or the kids, but alternate & spread them out... that way you have more to look forward to & more variety to your year.

Go for it

Some people like to veg out while on holidays but others take time to figure out what they're doing in life and what makes them happy. If your holiday has made you realise a few important changes need to take place in your life, don't let 'life' get in the way - start to plan them, start to look into them & make a decision to change before the end of the year... you can do it, it just needs will-power!

Keep holidaying

See if you can bring back a little of the magic. We're lucky enough to have every cuisine under the sun here in Manchester & Cheshire, so get out & have a little tapas or some Greek food, or even some French cuisine... bring some of those holiday happiness moments back!
