Essential Eyewear

We asked local eyewear expert Richard from Clare & Illingworth optometrists to help us make the most of our eyewear.

Richard advises busy girls on key trends & offers a practical & fashionable solution to your eyewear needs, and covers his top FAQs:

"Which shape suits my face?"

My advice is to ignore articles on face shapes. Always be open minded & try on different styles to see which shape suits you best. Don’t be put off by rigid rules on the science of your face – we're individuals!

"It's safer to stick to black, isn't it?"

No! Only a lucky few can pull off such a dramatic look. Black drains your skin tone so avoid heavy black plastics unless they have a metallic shine to brighten them. Use your hair & eyecolour as a guide - if you have cool tones to your skin, try cool toned glasses in blues & silvers- if you're warm with reds & golds, try complimentary colours like green or browns.

"I've had the same style for the last ten years - it suits me"

Our skin, hair and general physical appearance changes every year, our clothing changes throughout the seasons. Are spectacles any different?

Styles that you may not have considered previously may be found to sit perfectly now, you won't know until you try.

"What style of sunglasses are popular at the moment?"

Think big, bold and sometimes bright! Oversized sunglasses are here to stay - they look great and they give fantastic coverage of your whole eyewear from UV light. Brown is an easy colour for most to wear but colour and patterns both feature heavily in the key trends for 2008.

Final tip!

"Whatever you are searching for, remember to have fun and be yourself when choosing eyewear. It is one of the first things people notice when they meet you; they concentrate on your frames when making eye contact and like with any first impression, make judgments around that choice.

Invest in a frame that enhances your natural features and fills you with self confidence when out and about in daily life".
