Have you got the January blues BusyGirl?
Life & Love
There's a number of reasons for the good old January blues - the weather dampening our mood, faded holiday memories, nothing to look forward to..
... and the thought of getting up everyday to join to the rat race.
The only thing I like about January is that it's a good starting point for a fresh start, whether it is clearing out old junk, de-toxing or giving my life a much needed overhaul.
Christmas and New Year bring a welcome distraction to our everyday problems, but once it is all over those problems are back to haunt us all over again.
If it were any other year, by now I'd be wedged quite snugly into the dent I've moulded into the sofa, with TV remote, brew and favourite dunking biscuit at hand, with the intention of not moving until at least March.
This year I have a surprising spring in my step, despite the dreary outlook outside and the even drearier outlook for my life. The difference is every other year I have charged into January with lots of big ‘change my world' ideas, none of which were ever achievable - this year they are.
When it comes to cash, I can't afford to socialize this month, after my crazy Christmas, so instead I'll be inviting my friends round for a catch up to watch a DVD this weekend. I'm asking each of my friends to bring one thing, a bottle of wine, nibbles or a DVD. Creating cheap events at home keeps my social life afloat and saves those precious pennies.
I also find New Year is a perfect reason to shape up a bit and the exercise definitely boosts my mood. I'll be trying one of my Christmas pressie fitness DVD's this evening.
I've been staring at the piles of clothes pouring out of my wardrobe for too long. So I have been out this morning and bought some black bin bags. By 5pm this evening, my wardrobe will be accessible and my local charity shop will be a few pounds better off, from my mounting discarded garments... why did I buy that purple top anyway?
Honestly, BusyGirl, I find the key is to keep myself as busy as possible, so I will soon see the back of January and then have Valentines to look forward to... or not (depends on Himself's success at finding a suitable gift / venue / statement of love!).
Have a fab January and remember, it's only a few days out of the rest of your life x
If you're a bit fed up and live in London, BusyGirls recommend 'Yoga for the Mind' 8 or 6 week courses taking place in London from February 2010, which combine yoga movement with breath regulation to create and maintain emotional wellbeing. For more information see the diary (click here).
