Book Review: How to get the best deal

Home & Finances

We all love a bargain, if it's worth it.

best deal book review

That seems to be the essence of Sue Hayward's latest book, "How to get the best deal" - if something is actually worth it, then go for it. However, as Sue suggests, don't fall for a well-disguised bad deal.

It's inevitable that, during times of economic hardship, most companies will be offering ‘deals' to increase their sales. Of course some are more beneficial to the customer than others. Some are blatantly not ‘a good deal' at all, and this is where most of us should hear an internal warning bell and leave, sharpish.

It's also inevitable, during such times of recession that financial experts release books and websites on making more from your money.

If you're already a pretty savvy shopper, then you may only find a couple of relevant insights in Sue Hayward's new book, but if you're a total spendaholic, then you really should get a copy.

Sue writes in a chatty yet authorative manner, describing ways in which you can get a better deal, get more from your money, learn how to spot a bargain and avoid cons. Some lessons seemed very basic, such as ‘don't withdraw cash on your credit card, as it costs you money'. But other sections, especially the ‘know your rights' chapter, contain information which everyone should really know before committing to a purchase.

If you know someone, or you are someone, who loves to spend and could do with a little guidance and a reality check, then this would be a great read. Not exactly a bed time book, but certainly more useful than the average 400 pages.
