Colour me in
"Dear Martine. I know that we’re supposed to be wearing black & purple this winter, but I’m struggling to get a purple to suit me. I want to wear other colours to brighten things up but really don’t know what suits me. I’ve got brown hair & am quite pale, with brown eyes… can you help? Thank you!" Abigail, Manchester
Dear Abigail,
The quick answer is that you can wear any colour you like, the secret is where you wear it. The reason we feel certain colours don’t work for us is because of how they make our face look. The simple solution is, if you don’t like the way it makes your face look, then wear it lower down.
I’ve devised this simple checklist for all you busy girls to make sure your skin always glows & your eyes sparkle!
Olive skin, dark eyes & dark hair:
Opt for deep, dark colours like black, charcoal grey & deep purple to enhance your dark skin. Avoid pale colours close to your face - they'll wash your skin out & make you look quite tired
Fair skin, blue/grey eyes & blonde hair:
You’re the total opposite so look for light colours in your wardrobe. Pastels, like baby pink & mint green will work wonders for your skin. Avoid wearing black close to your face as this will cast a dark shadow onto your fair complexion
Golden/fair skin, blue, green or turquoise eyes & mid brown hair:
Avoid colours that are quite dull, like pale grey or dusky pink as these will just wash your skin out. Look for colours that will make your eyes & skin shine - white, cerise & emerald green are the way forward. If you don’t feel daring enough to wear brigh tops, introduce the colour in a neckscarf for subtle but effective results
Freckled skin, green or hazel eyes & red/strawberry hair or auburn hair:
Your skin has warm tones so look for colours with a golden hint in them; like mustard, khaki, cream & rich chocolate brown - they'll make sure your skin doesn’t lose that glow & your eyes shine
Hopefully this has helped on your quest to find the right colours Abigail!
