Busy Girls Review London Road
When we were offered a chance to visit Paul Heathcote's latest venue, London Road, we were instantly intrigued. You see London Road is situated smack bang in the middle of affluent Alderley Edge - a hot spot for Cheshire 's wealthy & well-connected.
Alderley Edge has seen its fair share of 'nice' restaurants, so it was going to be very interesting to see if Heathcote's new baby was more substance than style.
Atmosphere
By 8pm, the place was busy & bustling - the decor is actually really lovely with a fantastic private dining area upstairs for a max of 14 people. There is a great little outdoor terrace at the back (if the sun ever shines again we're sure it will be packed) & the overall feeling is that they're spent some money making the place feel 'special' without being too overfacing.
The Food
After a very tasty starter of Beef Carpaccio & then a slightly over-oniony French Onion Soup, we ordered the scallops & mash. Overall the scallops were well cooked (not chewy) but the dish should have been recommended as a starter as it was very small.
It's important to note that we did have a slight confusion about which dish was a starter & which a main, so be sure to ask your waiter to define them if you're struggling.
My guest then had the prawn linguine - which doesn't sound like the most original dish, but was very tasty & packed full of spices, so a real infusion of full-on-flavour.
A glass of Pinot Grigio at £6.00 & then a big helping of strawberry pavlova & coffees & we really felt quite satisfied (& full!) with our meals.
The menu has a range of pasta & pizza dishes, alongside more traditional meats & fish. The compulsory Sea Bass makes an appearance alongside some more original dishes - like grilled veal & a range of tasty risottos.
Who's it for?
The food is quite traditional without being too fancy - a menu of dishes you could pop out in the week & sample, rather than cordon-style delicacy.
If you're looking to wow your guests then the menu may be too simple for you, however it will work for a mid week solution.
Prices
London Road is a little pricey, with the Dover Sole at £30.00 for example, however, it is generally accepted that given the location, the atmosphere & the area, you will end up paying a little more.
Highlights
The wine menu is absolutely astounding - with over 400 wines to choose from London Road's very own cellar.
The positioning of the restaurant can't be faulted - when it's sunny outside, you really can sit & watch the Alderley world go by.
For groups of up to 14, the private dining room is an excellent choice - there is a minimum cost of £50.00 per head which needs to be reached.
